Publisher's original navy blue cloth boards with bright,crisp, blocked School crest+Latin motto towards centre of upper board,genrally bright and reasonably clean,but sporadically and minimally marked with random blemishes to rear board.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or splits present.Corner tips with inevitable minor rubbing with colour loss and both head+foot of spine/backstrip with bumping,creasing,rubbing and minimal colour loss too.Top edges very lightly aged/toned without foxing,fore-edges with minimal but sporadic foxing; contents generally bright,tight,clean,solid and sound other than some sporadic foxing to prelims at front,upto a couple of pages of first chapter - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - possibly unread,apart from my own collation.UK,8vo HB,gilt school crest+motto,1st edn,1-245pp [paginated] includes 19 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,a dedication,author's Preface,and Contents list/table. Visually the exterior appearance is acceptable for a book of it's age and even internally,the book is also in an acceptable condition/state of preservation and presentation.It is only the minor faults described that prevent a slightly better grading. Spender worked in the golden age of journalism in Britain before broadcasting. He was variously,assistant editor and editor for 36 years (1886-1922),spending 3 years (1893-6) as editor particularly,of the afternoon paper,'The Westminster Gazette',which was widely read by influential people mainly because of the articles that Spender wrote.Spender was on terms of confidiential friendship with Rosebery (Liberal Leader,Prime Minister, March 1894 to June 1895),Campbell-Bannerman (Liberal Party leader,Prime Minister,1905 to 1908),Asquith (Liberal, Prime Minister - 1908-1916),Haldane and Morley.
